Could Codemaster’s Be Working On Dirt 4

Less than a week after posting that information on the upcoming Formula 1 Game is soon to be released Codemaster’s F1 Creative Director, Steve Hood has leaked about a possible new title coming to the Dirt franchise.

The tweet tags Jon Tucker Senior Project Manager and Paul Coleman Chief Game Designer of the Dirt franchise and states that he (Steve) has been testing something new with them. It’s been 2 years since the release of Dirt Showdown and arguable 3 years since Rally fans have been able to play anything remotely like the classic rally games of yesteryear with the release of Ken Block’s Dirt 3.

The most interesting part of all was Steve’s reference to “made me think the good days could return…” Many fans were left disappointed with the last two titles in the series feeling they had become too focused on Gymkhana, the 4 wheel equivalent to free running made popular by viral sensation Ken Block. Although Dirt 2 had less of a focus on point to point rallying than the Colin McRae games of past many fans argue it was one of the better racing games of the last gen due to its balance of both arcade and simulation.

What’s your opinion on bringing back the Dirt franchise? Did you enjoy Dirt Showdown or would you much rather see the return of the old school McCrae games?
